MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- I've been here since November 2019 and have yet to do a Football Sports Extra.
Think about that. Sounds crazy, So I'm excited to talk about our local teams on Friday nights and to get us ready the WSIL Sports team continues to make the rounds and provide you with previews.
Lets start with Murphysboro.
Nothing beats game experience. You can practice all you want but there's something to said about facing an opponent when it counts.
Murprphysboro only has 7 seniors and that class hasn't played much. New Quarterback but the guys in the backfield have meaningful reps.
Head Coach Gary Carter sees this group improving with each practice. There's the want-to and buy in.
"I think we have a, I think our skill kids are pretty solid," Murphysboro Head Football Coach Gary Carter said. "We return our backfield offensively and we replace a lot of guys on defense as well. We have some holes to fill. You're not going to replace a Gavin Kuba, Trenton Shepard or Ashton Caraway. Those guys had four years of experience and it's going to take some time but I feel real good about the progress of your young guys. We have a good freshmen group last year that are now sophomores and we played those sophomores last year on the varsity level or last spring and now they are starters as a junior."
"We have this thing called if you're juiceful, you're useful," Murphysboro senior linebacker Justin Hunter said. "We try to get ourselves juiced up and hyped and get ready to kick some butt."
"This is probably one of the quickest teams we've had since the two years I've been here," Murphysboro senior running back Calvon Clemons said. "Well, last year we were pretty quick but I think this year we will probably be quicker."
"I definitely like the intensity we are bringing," Murphysboro junior fullback Ethan Finke said. "I think us being young, we are hungry and I think it is going to play to our benefit."
In week one, Friday August 27th, Murphysboro hosts Carbondale
