METROPOLIS (WSIL) -- Massac County teammates Emma Austin and Macy Pierce signed softball scholarships on Wednesday.
Austin will continue her career at SIU. The speedy outfielder batted .434, with 12 extra base hits and a team high 18 stolen bases as a sophomore.
"First school to show interest in me and I had no idea what I wanted to do at that point and I wasn't even interested in SIU and Coach Blaylock took me on an amazing visit and from that day on I felt an amazing connection with the coaches," Austin said.
Massac County first baseman Macy Pierce passed up on division one offers to compete at John A Logan.
She's got some power and decided it was in her best interest to go somewhere to play, and improve her fundamentals rather than sign a D1 scholarship and sit the bench for two years.
"Coach O runs her program as a D1 so that will prepare me so I think the best decision for me was to staying at John A and playing these two years and then continuing on," Pierce said.
