CARTERVILLE (WSIL) -- Carterville is a run first team but a 7-on-7 scrimmage is a passy happy event and lets quarterbacks air it out and let the receivers go get it.

Senior quarterback Eli Downnen returns as the starter and made some great throws Friday night to Bryce Anderson. The two hooked up in the endzone a few times.

Andrew Hellriegel was a pleasnt surprise. The sophomore showed the Lions have depth at the QB position. The sophomore showed off arm strength and the ability to throw in tight spaces.

Townsend Barton and Lance Thomas were impressive with big catches and a few scores but the catch of the night belongs to Ben Haake. Last play of the night and catches the ball at it's highest point in between two defenders.

Overall it was fun for the Lions to get back on the field under the Friday Night Lights.

"It's so fun, definitely different than a practice atmosphere," Downen said. "We have people out here cheering for us, whole team cheering, we've got celebrations. It's fun being out here with the guys and being able to compete and show it off to other people."

"It's better than nothing that is for sure," Haake said. "I'm ready to go, it really gets you excited and really building the tension to get going into February."
