...Breezy South Winds Expected Today...

South winds will increase today becoming sustained 15 to 25 mph
this afternoon along with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. The strongest
gusts are expected to occur across southeast Missouri into
southwest Illinois.

Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects. A few tree limbs
may also be blown down. High profile vehicles may encounter some
driving difficulty, especially on east-west roads.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro and Plumfield.

.Levels will continue to slowly fall on the Big Muddy River, but
remain above flood stage through next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

MVHS & Benton play in Rangerette Christmas Classic Finals, Lady Rams defend title with win over Benton

BENTON, IL (WSIL) - Both Mt. Vernon and Benton met in the Finals of the Benton Christmas Classic after winning their semifinal games.

The title game of the tournament was delayed nearly 90 minutes as the Harrisburg/Marion game went into double overtime. The Lady Bulldogs escaped with a 62-61 victory over the Lady Wildcats.

As for the championship game, Benton trailed 42-21 at halftime and was unable to recover from the deficit. 

Mt. Vernon went on to win big 67-41 and repeat as Benton Christmas Classic champions.
