CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) - College football is fast approaching; can the Saluki’s do better than last year?

News 3 checked in on the team's practice on Saturday.

The Dawgs opened its fall camp ten days ago. The team believes it has made massive strides during that time.

The camp is held at the home of the Salukis, where the team will make its magic this year.

Ten days into camp, the players are left to figure out who they are.

Quarterback DJ Williams, the Murray state transfer, is in a neck-and-neck battle with Marion native Hunter Simmons for the starting job.

"We got to perfect everything," Williams said. "The little things count. The little things win you games and lose you games at the end of the day. We have got to be good at dialing in on the little things and getting the plays right and understanding our assignments and doing our job."

There's a lot more at stake than a fight for the quarterback position. Nearly every position is up for grabs as the team makes its way through the second week of camp.

We'll have more on the Dawgs leading up to kickoff. SIU is just 3 Saturdays away from facing BYU.
