
CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) -Â Can the football Salukis win a national title?
They are one of 16 teams left in the chase to compete for the FCS Championship.
The last time SIU reached the second round of the FCS playoffs they fell to then #3 North Dakota State 38-7. That was in 2021.
This time around the dawgs face fourth ranked Idaho. This marks the first meeting between the Salukis and Vandals.Â
Last Saturday Nick Hill's bunch came in as 13 and half point favorites and won the game 35-nothing.
This Saturday, the Salukis will be in the national spotlight for the first time since 2021.
The game between ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois and (#4) Idaho can be seen on ESPN2.
Its a very late start. kickoff from the Gem State is at 9:00PM on Saturday.Â
Saluki head coach Nick Hill says its a major honor to have his team on display for the college football world to see.
"We're excited about the opportunity to play on national television, just an opportunity for our school to be on that stage and you know the time difference. Obviously it is something that we got to talk about as far as our players minds go. It's about locking into the game plan and these guys will be ready to go, Nick Hill said."Â
