PEORIA (WSIL) -- Last night SIU has a chance to make it 3 and 1 in conference play. But, to do so that means the Salukis would have to win on the road..something that has been a struggle for the young team all season.
Unfortunately, it was another disappointing road loss for SIU. They fall to Bradley 67-48. Bradley shot 50% from the floor in the second half, SIU 21%. Also SIU was 28% for the entire game. SIU led by 3 at the break, led by as many as 7, but in the second half things just fell apart.
"We played a great first half, up feeling good," said Marcus Domask. "We're going to watch film figure out the problem, but no one is happy in the locker room right now."
"Well they are a good team, so definitely give them credit. Brown is a really good guard, one of the best in this league and he's tough to stop, so it's obviously partly due to them, but also on our part like I said," said Bryan Mullins. "We had some mental mistakes and some defensive execution mistakes that we didn't do in the first half that led to some easy baskets and we had some turnovers that led to transition layups and run offs for them. They were able to get some confidence and momentum to start the second half."
A key moment in the game was with 4 seconds left in the first half Sekeou Dembele went down with an injury writhing in pain and didn't return.
"He was talking and moving and in terms of the scary stuff he was all okay," said Mullins. "I think it was the same leg as the stress fracture that he had earlier this year, but I'm not 100% sure so I'll talk to our trainer after this.
Up next for SIU is a road trip to Chicago as the Salukis take on Loyola Chicago. That is Thursday with a 7pm start.
