CARBONDALE, Ill -- The 九游体育 Illinois Saluki Softball team sweeps Murray State over the weekend, clinching the Missouri Valley regular season championship.
This is the fifth regular season title in school history, and the first one since 2010.
They finish with a 23-4 conference record, 39-9 overall.聽
SIU won the three games in Murray, Kentucky, by the scores of 1-0, 3-0, and 6-2.
Star freshman pitcher Maddia Groff won both games she started, moving her to 28-3 on the season. This ties the program record for most wins in a single season!
The Salukis end the regular season on a 6-game winning streak.
Now they will turn their sights on the postseason.
They are the defending Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Champions. They won the 2023 tournament as the 6 seed, beating UIC, Illinois State, Belmont, and Indiana State en route to the title.聽
To defend their title, SIU will play the winner of UIC and Murray State on Thursday morning. This year's tournament is in Normal on the campus of Illinois State.
If they can make it, the championship game will be Saturday afternoon at 1.聽
