...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM CDT MONDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following
counties, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry, Pulaski, Union,
Wayne and Williamson.

* WHEN...Until 1000 AM CDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 613 PM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended,
substantial flooding continues across much of the warned
area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the
start of the event on Wednesday. Only light drizzle is
anticipated through this evening.
- Flooding impacts will continue, with only minimal additional
rainfall expected.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort, Benton, Du
Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville, Fairfield, Anna, Johnston
City, Christopher, Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser,
Zeigler, Crainville, Cambria and Cobden.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

...FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH
TUESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees
possible. Everyone should see a 32 degree low or close to it.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From late Monday night through Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Williamson and Franklin
Counties.

.Heavy rainfall has ended across the area. The Big Muddy River is
continuing to rise and crests are expected over the next week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* IMPACTS...At 34.0 feet, Many surrounding homes begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 11:00 AM CDT Sunday the stage was 23.9 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 32.4
feet Wednesday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Missing helicopter found, family being notified

UPDATE: September 6, 2022

Officials say the helicopter crashed and was found around 3 p.m. Monday. The aircraft crashed into trees and the pilot was found inside. 

Stone's identity was confirmed and he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The crash is currently under investigation.

On Monday afternoon, first responders said the helicopter was located and family was being notified. No other details were immediately provided.

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (WSIL) -- Emergency management officials in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, are asking residents to check their property for a crashed or landed helicopter and its pilot. 

Glasgow\Barren County Emergency Management Deputy Director Marcus Thurman said contact has been lost with a small executive helicopter that was flying through the area over the weekend.

The pilot, David Stone, took off from Coeur Airport in St. Louis, Missouri around Noon Saturday. He stopped in Sparta, Illinois and called his wife and reported no issues. He said he was headed to Glasgow, Ky to fuel again before heading to Knoxville, Tennessee. That was the last contact anyone has had with Stone. 

A ping of the iPad that was with Stone was requested. The last known pinged location was near the Warren/Edmonson County line near Chalybeate. No contact has been made as of 12:48 p.m. Monday.

Hunters saw the helicopter and said it was flying southeasterly, so emergency officials in Muhlenberg County and surrounding areas are asking residents to check their property for a crashed or landed helicopter and Mr. Stone. 

Anyone who finds helicopter wreckage or a landed helicopter on your property is asked to contact local law enforcement. You are asked not to tamper with anything, just provide aid to Mr. Stone.
