FRANKLIN CO. (WSIL) -- A local 4-H club is offering help to health care workers in light of COVID-19.
Cindy Bauman, coordinator of the Franklin County 4-H program, says she has been in contact with representatives at SIH, and they are in need of additional masks.
So far, nearly 20 members related to her 4-H group are creating masks that take about five minutes each to put together.
She says these homemade masks won't necessarily protect against COVID-19, but may help the supply of masks last longer, as many places are short on personal protective equipment, or PPE.
"The material is 100 percent cotton, and that all that is requested. These are not protective for the COVID-19. They are just as an extra precaution for the ordinary everyday uses, and they'll also put them on top of other masks, so that those will last longer."
Bauman says they've been working since Monday night. She herself has made nearly 400 masks.
