MARION (WSIL) -- The HUB in Marion will reopen June 29. The city-owned indoor recreation center was closed March 16 amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

The HUB made the announcement Tuesday, but it says the reopening will be phased "according to state directives" in order to keep guests and employees safe.

Some of the initial changes include only opening to members, capacity limits in certain areas of the building and shortened hours.

Members must also sign a waiver during their first visit back to the facility.

The Hub recommends members wear masks while in the facility but does not require them while exercising.

General Manager Chris Georgantas says the size of the facility should allow for members to safely social distance while working out without masks.

"That's why we maintain space between machines. We have some machines, some equipment, we're trying to reduce the number of pieces of equipment that are down, but we do have some that are closed down, and some that are moved to different locations."

Staff suggest member try to visit during non-peak hours, such as midday.
