(WSIL) -- Illinois officials have announced additional COVID-19 mitigation efforts in the Metro East.

In a statement Tuesday, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) said the new mitigation measures, including no indoor service at bars or restaurants, will take effect in Region 4 on Wednesday, September 2.

Region 4 includes Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, Randolph, St. Clair and Washington counties.

Health officials say cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, with the region's positivity rate only increasing after initial mitigation efforts .

Region 4 is now reporting a current 7-day rolling test positivity average of 9.6%. IDPH will continue to track the positivity rate over the next 14 days to see if the restrictions can be relaxed or if additional measures will need to be implemented.
