PINCKNEYVILLE (WSIL) -- Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis is voicing his opinion on the current stay at home order in place in Illinois.
In a post made to the Facebook page Tuesday night, Bareis said he considers himself a "constitutional Sheriff" and that residents have the right to "worship, work, play, stay at home, and social distance themselves."
"We will not be part of a police state, stop vehicles for no reason, stop the worship of God, or interfere with legal activities on personal property," he continued.
News 3 received several emails and messages about Bareis' post and reached out to the sheriff. He was not available for comment Wednesday.
A statement added to the top of his post reads, "Nothing in this release diminishes the need to exercise precautions and abide by the spirit of a Governor's order. Be wise and prudent."
