(WSIL) -- Local eye doctors encourage contact users to be extra cautious to avoid contracting COVID-19.
Dr. Chase Rudolph from Complete Family Eye Care says viruses are commonly spread through the eyes. He advises to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, frequently throughout the day.
It's also allergy season where red itchy eyes can be confused for viral pink eye.
Dr. Rudolph says to contact a healthcare professional through telehealth immediately if you're having symptoms.
"If you do think that you have pink eye associated with an upper respiratory symptom, symptoms like COVID - coughing, sore throat, anything like that - is to get a hold of your eye doctor," he said.
He also says you can use hydrogen peroxide-based solutions to rinse your contacts and make sure to neutralize them before the next use.
