(WSIL)--As more people become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, scammers are using the opportunity to try and steal your information.

The Southern Seven Health Department reports incidents where residents received calls or texts asking for personal information in exchange for a vaccine appointment.

Southern Seven officials ask you to stay vigilant against these would be hackers.

"We just want people to be really careful as these fraudsters and scam artists are beginning to pop up. Don't share extra information with them, don't give out your bank accounts or your Medicare numbers. And if you have questions, please contact the health department or another trusted provider like a local pharmacy or a physician," said Southern Seven Health Department's Outreach Coordinator Nathan Ryder.

The Southern Seven Health Department will never ask for payment over the phone.

Your insurance should cover the price of a vaccine, and the vaccine is free to those without insurance.
