Kittens wearing mittens? Polydactyl kittens up for adoption

  • 0

MARION (WSIL) -- A litter of kittens in Marion is giving the name "Mittens" a whole new meaning.

Finding Forever Animal Rescue has three unique kittens looking for homes. They all have extra toes making their feet look like little mittens. They're called polydactyl cats and their extra toes are passed along through genetics.

"They can be on the front feet the back feet, a variation of both. Sometimes they can have one extra toe, sometimes they can have two. It kind of varies depending on what their genetics come up with. It's kind of unique to see quite a few of them and it's just fun to see their little mittens. It looks like they have gloves on so it's cool to see," explains Becca Baird, Director of Finding Forever Animal Rescue.

Baird adds the extra toe nails will need to be trimmed more often than a typical paw but no other special care is needed.

All three kittens are up for adoption. For more information on how you can adopt one of these kittens click .
