Illinois State Police said the first crash happened along I-64 at mile marker 64 near Woodlawn on March 28 at 4:27 p.m.

The deadly crash caused lane closures in both directions. Multiple first responders worked the crash scene.

Eastbound traffic was diverted onto U.S. 51 to IL Route 15 while westbound traffic was closed at the I-57 interchange and a marked detour was posted. I-64 has since reopened on Saturday morning.

State police said the driver of the first truck died. This truck was hauling roughly 200 batteries.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Hazmat Team also assisted at the scene. The roadway here reopened at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday.

A second three-vehicle crash occurred on I-64. This one happening in Washington County in the westbound lanes at mile marker 59 near Nashville at 7:28 p.m.

ISP stated traffic was backed up due to the other crash near Woodlawn.
