Marion native headed to Tokyo Olympics

(WSIL) -- A Marion High School graduate is headed to the Olympics in Tokyo next month.

Darryl Sullivan competed in the high jump and placed second with a height of 2.33 meters. That equals his lifetime best and puts him on the high jump team for the Olympic Games.

Sullivan is currently on the track and field team at the University of Tennessee. include the 2021 Outdoor SEC Silver Medalist and 2021 All-SEC Second Team.

The all-time school record holder in the event, Sullivan is the first Tennessee track & field athlete to qualify for the Olympics in the high jump. His mark of 2.33 meters currently ranks tied for third in the world during the 2021 outdoor season.

He will head to Japan with fellow SEC high jumpers JuVaughn Harrison (LSU) and Shelby McEwen (Alabama) who placed first and third on Sunday, respectively.

Two Salukis also qualified for the Olympic games in Tokyo. Price also bested her own American record during trials.
