MURPHYSBORO, IL - (WSIL) - Arevon Energy is expanding its Big Muddy Solar project to Murphysboro.
In a release, the company said it is, "committed to building strong local relationships and continuing to provide information on the project as it progresses toward construction."
The downtown Murphysboro office will be a center for the project’s community outreach and support.Â
Previously known as Campbell Solar, the project was renamed Big Muddy Solar after the river that snakes through Jackson County. The project logo includes an outline of Murphysboro’s legendary Big Muddy Monster, first reported in 1973 near the riverbanks just east of Riverside Park.
Big Muddy Solar represents a more than $190 million private investment and will create an estimated 250 jobs during the project’s construction, which is slated to start later this year. The project will disburse approximately $12 million in property tax payments over its lifetime to Jackson County, which will directly support the enhancement of schools, roads, and other infrastructure.Â
The project is expected to generate enough electricity to annually power the equivalent of more than 14,000 average Illinois homes.
