through the day. These storms will produce torrential downpours
which will overwhelm drainage systems and small creeks, leading to
areas of flash flooding.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM CDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Areas of southern Illinois along and south of Highway 13
and all of western Kentucky.

* WHEN...From 10 AM CDT this morning through 12 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop across
southern Illinois and western Kentucky from late this morning
through late tonight. Areas that see thunderstorms could
receive 1.5 to 3.0 inches of rain in just one or two hours,
with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches possible.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Atlas V rocket launches new satellite into space for U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla (CNN) � A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket launched a military communications satellite into space just after 6 a.m. Thursday morning from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It’s the fifth Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF-5) communications satellite for the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center. 

The rocket is part of a complex, six-hour mission to deliver the communications satellite which will give a highly secure, jam proof connection between U.S. leaders and deployed military forces. 

Thursday’s successful launch marks the 80th Atlas V mission since its inaugural launch in 2002. 

The launch and smoke plume could be seen from all over the state of Florida.Â
