Three charged in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Three people are facing charges in relation to a shooting which led to one person injured and another resulting in a death.

The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad reported three people were charged on Wednesday, roughly 24-hours after a shooting incident took place along William Street in Cape Girardeau.

Authorities said a 17-year-old died and a 53-year-old had non-life threatening injuries after they were reportedly shot near the CVS Pharmacy at the intersection of William Street and Kingshighway Tuesday afternoon.

Later that night, a short pursuit with a suspect ended when the vehicle stopped in the area of Pindwood and Whitener in Cape Girardeau. At this point, three people got out of the vehicle and ran from police, two of which were immediately caught a short time later, law enforcement stated.

On Wednesday, three people now are behind bars.

Tre'marion Jones, 20 of Cape Girardeau, faces a Class A first-degree murder charge, three counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, assault in the first degree and resisting arrest.

Zhamius Smith, 20 of Caruthersville, is charged with hindering prosecution and resisting a lawful stop.

Yaunique Cain, 21 of Cape Girardeau, was charged with tampering with physical evidence.

All three suspects are held on a no-bond warrant.
