MARION, IL (WSIL) -- A new organization in southern Illinois that helps veterans and first responders held a fundraiser in Marion this weekend.

Several dozen folks joined organizers of Continuing Hope at Emery Brothers Skating Rink for a BBQ benefit Saturday afternoon. It all came together with the help of the community as several businesses in the area donated BBQ and burgers for the event.

The in Carbondale. The practice specializes in PTSD and treatment-resistant depression.

Zach Hutchinson. who is the founder of Continuing Hope, says the outpouring of support is inspiring, while the need continues to grow.

"As everyone knows wintertime is coming, depression rates go sky high in the wintertime," says Hutchinson. "People are uncomfortable with holidays, they have a really hard time and we just want to make sure that our account is big enough and healthy enough to help everyone who needs help over the wintertime."

The new organization started after Hutchinson learned that Veteran benefits won't cover the special treatments.
