CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- The Carbondale Police Department is alerting residents about a wild coyote that has been seen in city limits over the last several weeks.
The department issued a "Wild Animal Alert" Friday afternoon.
Officials say the coyote has not shown aggressive behavior but is sick.
Police are warning resident not to approach the animal.
"It is reported that certain people have made Facebook posts claiming that it is a dog and they are wanting to help it. Please take note this is NOT a domesticated pet dog, but a wild coyote. DO NOT APPROACH this animal in an attempt to assist it. You may cause it to feel threatened and it may attack you or others out its natural instinct to protect itself," stated the alert.
According to the department, an animal control officer is monitoring the coyote.
If you see it, you can report it at (618) 549-2121.
