MARION (WSIL) -- As a precaution to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19, the City of Marion is closing several of its facilities.

The city is canceling all events and activities at the HUB, the Pavilion, Marion Carnegie Library, Marion Senior Citizen's Center and the Boyton Street Community Center for at least two weeks, beginning Monday, March 16. The Marion Cultural and Civic Center will be closed until May 1.

"We are making every effort to reschedule shows and events and each facility will provide information as we know more. All City employees are asked to report to work. During these closures, our teams will be conducting thorough cleanings of each facility to ensure the health and safety of our employees and patrons when they reopen," said city leaders in a release issued Sunday afternoon.

The Marion Senior Citizen Center will still have meals available for pick-up.

City Hall will also remain open, but residents paying their water bill at city hall are asked to use the drop box located near the front doors or the drive-up drop box at the corner of East Main and Madison Streets.

"This is still a developing situation. We are not panicking but being cautious. We encourage you to act the same," said the release.
