CARBONDALE, Ill., (WSIL) -- Some topics are easier to talk about than others. ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois University Carbondale's Paul Simon Public Policy Institute (PSPPI) plans to hold a breakout discussion on parents and role in teaching children civic education. It is free and open to the public, upon registration.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, guest speaker Lindsey Cormack will be on hand for a virtual discussion about her book "How to Raise a Citizen (And Why It's Up to You to Do It). Cormack, along with PSPPI director, John Shaw, will discuss her research on the subject of citizenship and the responsibilities of promoting it. That includes as a parent.
Cormack hails from New Jersey, where she is an associate professor of political science and director of the Diplomacy Lab at Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken. According to analysis within her book, Cormack believes it's up to all of us to inspire future generations of Americans. She also believes it's the job of the parent, opposed to the school system.
The Zoom discussion will start at 1 p.m., but registration is required to participate. It's part of the PSPPI's "Understanding Our New World" series. You can visit to register.
