University, Time Square malls to reopen Friday

University and Time Square malls reopened their doors Friday for tenants doing "retail-to-go," but retailers did not reopen.

A spokesperson for Mason Asset Management and Namdar Realty Group tells News 3 that no retailers opened Friday at University Mall in Carbondale. The spokesperson says many businesses opted to wait and are hoping to be up and running in the next few days.

At Time Square Mall in Mt. Vernon, Shoe Sensation, Glick's and Subway are preparing to reopen in the coming days.

According to the spokesperson, Big Lots and Hibbett Sports have been facilitating orders for the last couple weeks.

(WSIL) -- Two southern Illinois malls that have been are making plans to reopen.

University Mall in Carbondale and Time Square Mall in Mt. Vernon will reopen Friday, May 1 following "retail-to-go guidelines."

Last week, Gov. JB Pritzker announced a for the month of May. The modified order allows non-essential businesses to reopen for curbside or delivery

In a release Thursday morning, Namdar Realty Group said the malls would be operating on limited hours, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that merchants must follow the governor's order, including:

  • All payments should be done over the phone or internet if possible, and contact should be minimized if remote payment is not available.
  • Purchased items should be delivered by the employee to the backseat or trunk of the customer’s vehicle whenever possible to minimize physical contact with the customer.
  • Employees must wash or sanitize their hands after each interaction with a customer, and whenever possible, must disinfect any item that came into contact with the customer.

"Namdar Realty Group will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure compliance with all state regulations and government decrees. We hope to reopen the malls as soon as permissible. We ask that all merchants and employees follow the above and do their part to ensure our communities health," said a release from the group.

According to the Namdar Realty Group , the company has seven malls in Illinois.
