CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL)-- A new restaurant which is scheduled to go into the former Golden Corral building in Carbondale was targeted by thieves, according to the owners. They said someone walked away with more than $100,000 worth of equipment stolen from its roof.

Owners of Yummy Buffet in Carbondale said someone stole parts of their air conditioning unit while the building is undergoing a remodel.

The new owners purchased the building on Reed Station Parkway just off of East Main Street this past October.

Since then, they've been working non-stop to get the new Asian buffet open, however, they said they were not expecting to uncover a theft on Thursday morning.

The building contractor told News 3 they installed the air conditioner about a month ago. He says when he went on the roof Thursday morning, he saw there were pieces missing from the air conditioning unit. He says people cut the air compressors and coils to get the copper wiring.

Carbondale police say they are investigating the theft.

Authorities said they believe the theft most likely happened within the last 10 days.

The owners ask if anyone has any information, to report it to the Carbondale Police Department.
