15-year-old arrested after police respond to gun incident report

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 15-year-old male was arrested after police respond to a report of a person displaying a gun during an altercation on May 9.

The Carbondale Police Department said their officers responded to a report of a male displaying a gun on May 9, at 6:28 p.m., in the 700-block of South Lewis Lane.

Officers said they recovered the gun without incident and arrested the teenager for Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Authorities released him to his parent with monitoring equipment due to a lack of available juvenile detention facilities.

The juvenile’s identity remains undisclosed in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.

Police encourage anyone with information to contact the department as the investigation continues.
