HARRISBURG (WSIL) -- A former southern Illinois doctor convicted of murdering his estranged wife will be sentenced in March.
, Burns was convicted of murder and concealment of a homicidal death in the 2016 death of Carla Burns.
During the week-long trial in Saline County, a video of Burns giving his account of events to authorities was presented as evidence. In the video, Carla’s death was an accident. Prosecutors argued Burns shot and killed Carla then burned her body.
Brian Burns was set to be sentenced on the murder and concealment charges Tuesday afternoon in Saline County court.
The Illinois Department of Corrections did not receive written notice for Burns to be transported from Menard Correctional Center to the courthouse so the hearing was rescheduled.
Burns is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the attempted kidnapping of former Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw.
Tuesday's sentencing hearing was rescheduled for March 31.
