PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- Family and friends are sharing memories of a Paducah teacher who was shot and killed Tuesday at her home.

Paducah Police say Carrie "CD" McCord, 56, was shot to death in her yard.

The suspect - Kelvin Lamont Richardson - was arrested a few blocks away on charges of murder, first degree fleeing or evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and violation of an interpersonal protective order.

Outside McCord's home Thursday, friends and neighbors stopped to pay their respects. It wasn't just flowers left to honor her, but a movement.

The hashtag "love like CD" began to remind others of the kindness she showed to others.

"She was always there if anybody needed anything," said Natalie Krupansky.

Krupansky says McCord was someone you could count on.

"CD would take care of anybody or anything. And it didn't matter if it was a stray dog, or if it was a student who everybody else had gotten frustrated or given up on, or obviously a person or grown adult," she said.

She hopes McCord's life will inspire others.

"I hope that it doesn't--it may have ended her life, but I hope that it doesn't end the kindness that she exuded and shared with everybody. I hope people aren't afraid to still be kind," she said.

Now a has been created for high school seniors who want to be a special education teacher like McCord.

"That's where CD's heart was, and so we just want some kind of lasting way to honor her," she said.

Since McCord was always seen with her dogs, friends are also putting together a dog walking march as a memorial.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. next Wednesday at Circle Park. It will start with a moment of silent before the walk to remember her.

Richardson is scheduled for an arraignment at 11 a.m. Friday in McCracken County court.
