Homicide investigation underway in Carbondale

CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A murder suspect is behind bars as Carbondale Police launch a homicide investigation.

Just before 6:00am on Friday, May 28, officers responded to assist with an eviction in the 700 block of South Marion Street. During the investigation, police located Melvin L. Edwards, 61 years old, of Carbondale, with life threatening injuries. Edwards was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where he was later pronounced dead. 聽

A death investigation began before identifying 43-year-old Freddie Ray Glasser, formerly of Dolores, Colorado, as a suspect.聽Officers located Glasser on South Lewis Lane at approximately 10:20 a.m., and arrested him after he was reportedly trying to enter vehicles. Detectives charged Glasser with homicide and he is currently in the Jackson County Jail.
