CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Kentucky man was indicted for first-degree murder of a SIU student, according to a local state's attorney.

Jackson County State's Attorney Joseph Cervantez announced on October 3, Keavonte T. Nesby, 22 of Louisville, Kentucky, was indicted for the murder of Keeshanna Jackson which died on August 22, 2021.

Cervantez presented evidence in front of the Jackson County Grand Jury on October 3. Cervantez then said Nesby was indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

This comes after Nesby was arrested on the same charges in mid-August. He was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 15, however, the grand jury indicted him, which moves the case forward in court.

Jackson died on August 22, 2021, at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale after a shooting at a house party on Cherry Street in Carbondale which injured four, Cervantez detailed as part of the investigation.
