PINE TOP, Ky. (AP) � A published report says Kentucky State Police fatally shot at least 41 people in a five-year span from 2015 to 2020. That's more than any other law enforcement agency in the state.
Police declined to release the numbers, but a reporting partnership built a database using publicly available data and state police records. That's according to a report by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting in partnership with
The Marshall Project and the Lexington Herald-Leader. Kentucky State Police declined an interview request but Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. defended the agency’s work in a statement.
He said he's committed to integrity in investigation and to conducting law enforcement “in the right way.�
