SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- A man in Scott City is alleged to have posted a photo of a gun pointing at a police cruiser on social media, while having an active warrant for his arrest. He was later taken to jail.
The Scott City Police Department said their office was notified about a post on Facebook which was reported as a person holding and pointing a black handgun out a window of a home towards a Scott City police car on June 15.
Police said the post circulated on Corey Stoffregen's Facebook page which stated... “I spy……Scott County (laughing emoji) the gun is not real folks unfortunately so calm down�.
Officers with Scott City, along with deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, found Corey Stoffregen had an active arrest warrant.
Authorities then went to Stoffregen's home and placed him into custody without incident.
Police said the weapon was also recovered.
Stoffregen was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and has a $7,500 cash only bond.
According to a probable cause statement, Sgt. Keller with the Scott City Police Department said he went to the home where Stoffregen was at. Stoffregen reportedly stated, "After thinking about it, I deleted the post and should not have done that."
The gun was described as a Volcanic 22 Type G, the probable cause statement read.
The statement also detailed Stoffregen had been convicted of a felony crime and was not allowed to possess a firearm. According to online court records, Stoffregen pleaded guilty to a Class E Felony of Domestic Assault 3rd Degree on July 6, 2023.
