MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- A Jefferson County man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for trying to kill a pregnant woman.
Victor Serrano, 40, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of attempted murder. In exchange for his plea, four other counts, including aggravated kidnapping and domestic battery, were dismissed.
Serrano was arrested in December 2018 after a high speed chase in Indiana.
Authorities said Serrano seriously injured the woman in an incident near Country Club Road in Mt. Vernon then fled the state, leading police in Indiana on a chase that exceeded 100 miles per hour.
Jefferson County State's Attorney Sean Featherstun says Serrano must serve 85% of his 40 year sentence. He was also ordered to pay restitution.
