MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- One person is in custody and faces charges in connection to a multi-county wire theft investigation.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said on November 26, at 2:26 p.m., they arrested a suspect in connection to theft and criminal damage of more than $100,000 worth of communication wire.
The sheriff's office said thefts have occurred in the area lately and caused disruptions of phone and internet service to thousands across the area.
Jakob Caldwell was arrested in the investigation. The sheriff's office said Caldwell had in his possession some stolen wire in a vehicle wire when they arrested him. The sheriff's office also said Caldwell just finished cutting up the wire as their investigators walked up to him in a wooded lot in northwest Marion.

Caldwell was then taken to the Williamson County Jail.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich stated, 鈥淲CSO has implemented significant technology and resources to aid us in identifying and capturing those who steal wire. Those who choose to commit these crimes are on notice that we will identify you and arrest you鈥�.
