MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- One person was arrested and faces charges in connection to a high speed pursuit which ended in a crash and search for the suspect.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said on December 5, at 12:16 p.m., they received information about a vehicle which fled after authorities tried to pull over a vehicle on I-64 at the 56 mile marker.

The sheriff's office described the vehicle as a white Nissan Rogue with New York license plates with at least two black males inside the vehicle.

Deputies in Jefferson County saw the vehicle on I-57 near Exit 95. The sheriff's office said authorities tried to pull over the vehicle, however, it kept going and hit speeds of more than 100 mph and was weaving through traffic.

At about two miles south of the Benton exit, the vehicle hit multiple vehicles and then crashed off the west side of I-57, authorities reported. At this point, the sheriff's office said the passenger was then taken into custody and the driver ran into some nearby woods.

The passenger was taken to the SSM Good Samaritan Hospital to be evaluated and treated, before taken to the Justice Center. Afterwards, the passenger in custody was released after the investigation was over.

A Johnston City officer was later reported finding and taking the driver of the vehicle into custody. The sheriff's office said the driver was identified as Sadarius Turner, 25 of Atlanta, Georgia.

Turner was then taken to the hospital for injuries he received in the crash, authorities said. He was later taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.

The sheriff's office says Turner faces charges of Reckless Driving and Aggravated Fleeing and Attempting to Elude.

Assisting in the investigation is the Illinois State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, West City Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office and Franklin County EMA.
