One person arrested in a shooting and vehicle theft investigation in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- One person has been arrested in relation to a shooting and a theft of a vehicle out of Carbondale.

Carbondale Police Department said they identified a juvenile who was allegedly involved in the incident on October 13 in the 900-block of West McDaniel Street where a man was shot and the suspect then stole a vehicle.

In an earlier report, police in Carbondale responded to the 900-block of West McDaniel Street at 11 p.m. where they found a man with multiple non-life threatening gunshot wounds. At the time, police said the victim was in his car and talking to another person. That other person reportedly shot the victim and then took his vehicle.

Detectives started investigating the incident which led to identifying a male juvenile as a suspect in the incident. Police later obtained an arrest warrant for the juvenile with charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular hijacking and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police in Carbondale, along with the assistance from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police, arrested the juvenile during a traffic stop in Williamson County.

Police continued to investigate and found the stolen Jeep in the 400-block of North Oakland Avenue later that evening.

Police said the victim has been released from the hospital after getting treatment for the injuries he sustained in the incident.

The case is still being investigated.
