CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A man is in the hospital after another male allegedly shot him and took his vehicle.

Officers in Carbondale responded to the 900-block of West McDaniel Street Thursday night at 11 p.m. for a report of a man who was shot.

Once they got on scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds which police said were non-life threatening.

Police said the victim reported that he was stopped in his vehicle and talking with a black male he didn't know when the male shot him through the car window.

The victim then got out of his vehicle. At this time the male who shot the man got in the victim's vehicle and drove away from the area.

Police said the victim's vehicle was a gray Jeep Cherokee with Tennessee license plate MB 1439. Police said this is a special Memphis Grizzly license plate on the vehicle.

As of Friday morning, the vehicle has not been found yet, according to police.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, medium height and wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is stable.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
