CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- One person suffered gunshot wounds and another was taken into custody after police responded to a reported shooting on Sunday.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department said officers responded to the 200-block of Independence Street on June 16 at around 1:40 a.m. and learned one person was shot.
The shooting victim was taken to a local hospital in a personal vehicle before police got to the scene, police said.
Officers reportedly found evidence of a shooting which took place near the intersection of Themis and Spanish, including a vehicle which was hit by a bullet.
Moments later at 2:20 a.m., officers found someone suspected of being involved in the shooting. The suspect was found in the 1100-block of N. Sprigg Street, however, police said the suspect started running away.
Officers ended up catching the suspect which was identified as a juvenile, police stated. The juvenile suspect was then taken into custody.
The victim reportedly had two gunshot wounds which were treated at a local hospital. The injuries from the shooting were described from police as non-life threatening.
Cape Girardeau police also said three firearms, multiple rounds of ammunition, high capacity magazines and an illegal firearms switch were recovered.
This investigation is ongoing.
