CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- UPDATE: January 1, 8:00 a.m. -- The Carbondale Police Department released information on a suspect in connection to a robbery investigation December 30.
Police said the suspect they identified is Jonquel Gaston, 27 of Carbondale.
Police then said Gaston was found and arrested in Champaign County, Illinois.
Gaston was then cited with Armed Robbery and Armed Habitual Criminal charges and was taken to the Champaign County Jail.
Carbondale police said Gaston will be extradited back to Jackson County.
The investigation is still active and ongoing.
ORIGINAL: Dec. 31, 10:41 a.m. -- Police are searching for a person who is suspected of an armed robbery in Carbondale.
The Carbondale Police Department said their officers responded to a business in the 900-block of East Main Street on December 30 at 6:36 p.m. for a reported robbery.
Police said a suspect went into the business with a handgun and demanded money. Police described him as a black male, 5'6" tall, weighing roughly 240 lbs., wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, with black athletic shorts and white shoes.
After the man left the business, police said he ran away on foot going west and later was found running south near South Cedarview and East Walnut Street.
