NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (WSIL) -- Two were arrested in connection to a pursuit in southeast Missouri.

The New Madrid County Sheriff's Office said their deputies saw a 2020 Dodge Durango speeding on US Highway 61 in New Madrid on December 27. This comes after the department said they were advised of a vehicle with this description which was stated to have fled from a traffic stop with the Missouri State Highway Patrol beforehand.

After seeing the vehicle in New Madrid, the sheriff's office said law enforcement tried to pull over the vehicle, but the Durango sped away and onto I-55, then turning right at the Matthews exit and onto Highway 80.

The sheriff's office said the vehicle reached high speeds and then crashed into a ditch just east of County Road 706.

Two people from within the vehicle then fled the area on foot, authorities said. However, law enforcement said they were able to take into custody the passenger a short time later. The suspected driver of the vehicle continued to flee through a wooded area.

The sheriff's office said the driver was found a short time later after using thermal imaging drones. The driver was then taken into custody.

Law enforcement said officers later found a large amount of marijuana, roughly 225 grams, from within the vehicle.

Both suspects were then taken to the Mississippi County Jail.

On December 28, a warrant was issued for Jaquan Dodds, 25 of Charleston, charging him with Aggravated Fleeing a Stop, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Physical Evidence, the New Madrid County Sheriff's Office said. The bond amount is 25,000 cash only.

Authorities said a warrant was also issued for Patrick Stayhorn, 25 of East Prairie. The bond placed on Stayhorn is 50,000 cash only.
