BENTON (WSIL) -- Demolition of the old Franklin County Courthouse is expected to begin soon.
Franklin County Board Chairman Randall Crocker says the asbestos mitigation is finished, and the county have been given the "all clear" to move forward.
Crocker says he'll meet with the contractor next week, and that demolition should start within another couple weeks.
Once demolition begins, it's expected to take about eight days to remove the entire building.
Construction for the new courthouse has been put out to bid.
The bids are due by 2 p.m. July 30. Officials are planning a public opening of the bids at 2:30 p.m. that day.
