
DU QUOIN, IL (WSIL) -- The Du Quoin Fire Department is joining a statewide initiative to better keep residents safe from a house fire.Â
The Fire Department on October 2nd that they're joining the first-ever "Be Alarmed! Smoke Alarm Installation Statewide Blitz."Â
It's in partnership with several organizations including the Illinois State Fire Marshal, Camp I am Me, and the Illinois Community Risk Reduction Coalition Taskforce.Â
All you have to do is call the fire department, and crews will come to your home to install a smoke alarm for free.Â
The purpose of is to:Â
- Educate residents, young and old, on home fire safety and prevention methods
- Reduce the number of fire-related injuries
- Reduce the number of fire-related deaths
- Identify the reason for non-functioning smoke alarms in homes across the state
This community blitz is taking place October 20-26, which coincides with Fire Prevention month.Â
However, the fire department wants to remind residents they offer this service all year long.
