34 high school students awarded full-ride scholarships to SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- 34 area high school students were awarded full-ride scholarships to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Chancellor Austin Lane, along with other SIU officials, surprised dozens of students on Monday and Tuesday and presented scholarships to the students in Southern Illinois and the Metro East regions.

The students were congratulated for their achievements by the university's staff members, along with members at the high schools.

31 students were awarded from 20 high schools with in-person visits, along with three other scholarship recipients with visits using Zoom.

“Chancellor’s Scholars imagine bold goals and then work to make them a reality, even when it defies the odds,� Lane said. “I am excited to personally congratulate these Salukis on receiving Southern’s highest honor for freshmen.�
