Hundreds of southern Illinois high school students to attend SIU Education Day

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Hundreds of area high school students are expected to visit 九游体育 Illinois University Carbondale on Tuesday as part of Education Day.

The event will take place on October 29, at the SIU's Student Center.

More than 300 students are expected to visit and take part in interactive and educational activities and hand-on sessions. There will be a wide range of topics discussed and high school students will be able to select three sessions to attend. The workshop titles include, 鈥淲elcome to the Imagination Lab,鈥� 鈥淥rigami Math Art,鈥� 鈥淪unshine and Superheroes,鈥� 鈥淭he Adventure of Teaching in Alaska鈥� and 鈥淔un with 4-H.鈥�

The Education Day is an event to help with the ongoing teacher shortage and connect high school students with resources at SIU.

There will also be a resource fair with more than two dozen SIU departments and organizations.

High school students attending the event are from Anna-Jonesboro, Carbondale, Carrier Mills-Stonefort, Carterville, Century, Cobden, Crab Orchard, Du Quoin, Egyptian, Gallatin County, Goreville, Harrisburg, Herrin, Johnston City, Marion, Meridian, Pinckneyville, Shawnee, Vienna and West Frankfort high schools.
