HARRISBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- Southeastern Illinois College celebrated its 63rd graduating class on Thursday evening in Joseph Deaton Gymnasium. A total of 232 graduates from eight U.S. states and Canada were honored at the ceremony.
SIC President Dr. Karen Weiss addressed the graduates, highlighting their perseverance and community spirit.
“In a world that can feel increasingly fast-paced and far away from places like this, it’s important to remember that some of the most valuable skills don’t just come from a textbook, Weiss said. “They’re forged in real life—in long shifts and late nights, in caring for kids while attending class, in commuting long distances to chase a dream."
Weiss also acknowledged the college's achievements, including state championships in speech, Model Illinois Government, and eSports.
Chair of the Board of Trustees Debbie Hughes conferred the degrees, and Weiss presented the candidates for graduation.
Though the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Robert Edward Winters could not attend, his printed address urged graduates to lead with purpose and compassion.
The ceremony included musical performances by SIC English instructor Jenny Billman.
A reception was held afterward in the Harry L. Crisp Student Center, allowing graduates and families to celebrate together.
