WILLIAMSON COUNTY (WSIL) -- Signs of debris are still visible at the corner of Illinois Route 166 and Atlanta Lane.
A rollover crash there Friday led to life-threatening injuries for 30-year old Carmen Colson, of Johnston City.
Colson is recovering at a hospital in Evansville, Ind. according to Colson's cousin Kristin Moore, who visited Colson on Sunday.
"She just looked at me and said 'I love you'. And that was sweet," Moore said.
OVERWHELMING SUPPORT
Moore was at her home in Marion when she got word of the crash, hours after spending time with with Colson.
"It's hard. It hits home. It's scary and it puts life into perspective for a lot of people," Moore said. "Life is short."
Moore says Colson suffered multiple broken bones but says her cousin remains in high spirits after seeing the community's response.
Multiple are happening this to help Colson and her family through the recovery process.
"She's got high spirits," Moore said. "She was completely amazed by the overwhelming support and love."
A FIGHTER
Moore says Colson is expected to undergo surgery Wednesday and learn more about the recovery road ahead. Since the crash, Colson was able to speak to her son for the first time.
"He was extremely excited to get to talk to her and hear her voice," Moore said.
Moore is relieved that Carmen can continue her life and her son can continue having a mother.
"She's pretty beat up but she's going to be okay," Moore said. "She's a fighter. She always has been."
