CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) â€ A big send-off is happening at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport for Missouri veterans thanks to VFW Post 3838 and the Wake Foundation.Â
50 local veterans will fly to Washington, D.C., free of charge to see some of our nation's most notable landmarks and monuments, which highlight their service.Â
Before they depart, veterans receive a big send-off at the airport, which is open to the public.Â
The send-off includes activities such as a procession, community tributes, and a performance by the Clippard Elementary School Choir.Â
Months before the Honor Flight, the community prepares items and gifts for each veteran. During the send-off, those local veterans will receive those gifts such as thank-you cards.Â
Festivities will be this Thursday, March 27th. The event will begin at 9:45 until 11:30.Â
Organizers say the veterans and their guardians will depart at 11:30.Â
Our News 3 team will be there, providing an inside look at the festivities.
