Franklin Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating vehicle vs. pedestrian crashes

FRANKLIN CO. (WSIL) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating two vehicle versus pedestrian crashes.

The first happened at approximately 11 p.m. June 7.

The sheriff's office says Roger Shelton, 63, of Benton, was struck while riding his bicycle on Route 34 east of Benton.

According to investigators, Shelton remains in critical condition in a St. Louis hospital.

The second accident happened around 10:05 p.m. Sunday on Route 149 near the intersection of Plumfield Road.

The sheriff's office says Casen Flanagan, 27, of Zeigler, was walking in the eastbound lane of Rt. 149 when he was hit by an eastbound truck.

Flanagan was flown to a St. Louis hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the truck, William Morris, 18, of Royalton, and his passenger were not injured.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says no tickets have been issued in either incident at this time.
